Read full description of the books Oink-a-Doodle-Moo:Do you remember that game you might have played as child, or discussed in Psych 101, where you sit in a circle and someone whispers a message in the ear of the person next to them who then whispers it to the person next to them, and so on around the circle.
That's the textual concept behind Oink-a-Doodle-Moo. For one day, apparently Pig decides to have some fun, and he/she goes 'psst' to rooster and says, "I have a secret". That secret turns out to be 'Oink'. Cute Rooster scurries off to tell Cow. And 'Oink-a-doodle-doo' is the result. Cow then passes it on to frog, who passes it on crow... until there's a wide range of animals involved.
The art work in this book is adorable. Sweet and yet playful.
And I would use this book several ways. For very young children in the household you could use it to work on animal identification. There's owls, crows, horses, sheep, mouse, snake, donkey, duck cat, and dog shown besides the other animals I mentioned. A nice selection really and talking about what sounds they make will come naturally from the story,
For slightly older children, I think you could just use this concept to work on memory. At the end Dog runs brings the message back to Pig, but I won't say what happens next, except there's a snag.
Overall, a cute book to share during lap time, or in a classroom, or at the library. The only thing you might consider is whether this concept is going to be amusing to you if you have to read it over and over and over again... which is likely to happen :]
