Read full description of the books The Dark Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft, Vol 6:This is Volume 6 of the ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING set of unabridged audio recordings of H.P. Lovecraft's best stories as read by Wayne June. This Volume contains the unabrdiged reading of At the Mountains of Madness: The Definitive Edition. I have already done a detailed review of ATMOM that you can see here
Therefore, I just want to say a few words about the amazing narration of Wayne June because I think his reading adds considerably to the overall experience of this story. June has a deep, baritone voice and an emotional, yet controlled, reading style that I thought was just perfect for the over the top melodrama of Lovecraft's prose. I can not imagine matching a better voice to the words of H.P. Lovecraft and I honestly think that June's reading should be the only audio version of this story available. It really is that good.
If you have the opportunity to listen to these audio recordings, even if you have read HPL's stories before, I would strongly recommend you give them a try. They are just terrific and a well done audio book is an experience of it own.
HIGHEST POSSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION!!!
Read information about the authorHoward Phillips Lovecraft, of Providence, Rhode Island, was an American author of horror, fantasy and science fiction.
Lovecraft's major inspiration and invention was cosmic horror: life is incomprehensible to human minds and the universe is fundamentally alien. Those who genuinely reason, like his protagonists, gamble with sanity. Lovecraft has developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fictions featuring a pantheon of human-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore. His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of the Enlightenment, Romanticism and Christianity. Lovecraft's protagonists usually achieve the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of ultimate reality.
Although Lovecraft's readership was limited during his life, his reputation has grown over the decades. He is now commonly regarded as one of the most influential horror writers of the 20th Century, exerting widespread and indirect influence, and frequently compared to Edgar Allan Poe.
