What Dominic Law found out after his first couple of cases as a private investigator was that everything... and everyone... is not what it seems.
However, since he had Natasha and Niki to relieve the stress after working such difficult cases, Dom figured that it was worth all the trouble... especially when they knew the stresses of the job, with Natasha being a detective and Niki being the newly appointed assistant district attorney.
The next cases that the firm picks up are no less complicated; one involves a murdered submissive in Natasha's district, leading them to try and weed out the killer among five different Dominants with an axe to grind.
The other case that occurs in Niki's district brings to the surface an issue that is at the center of debate in the Fetish community: consent. Or, more specifically, can consent be used to hide behind a crime committed during the heat of passion?
Deviant Intent: Deception takes you back to the streets and dungeons of Atlanta’s Fetish community, twisting the cases to their final conclusions, guiding you through the minds of the principal players of the “Kink Detective” series.

This has long been the philosophy of Shakir Rashaan since he began writing back in high school, starting out with short stories that were initially intended to be stories for different contests for young adult publications. While he never won any of the major prizes from those contests, the “bug” bit him way back then, and has led him on a journey that culminated in the current novels that are currently out.
Believe it or not, erotica was not the first genre that he’d planned to write in. Several manuscripts that have yet to be transcribed are from his original young adult short stories, which had been developed into a full-fledged series, based loosely on his high school days at Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia. But, with maturity comes a different path, and that path led him to launch his literary career in the erotica genre.
His debut novel in March 2009, The Awakening: Book One of the Nubian Underworld, revolves around a world and a subject that not very many are completely privy to or in the know about: the Fetish/BDSM underground. Determined to prove that “black folks are into kinky stuff, too,” he spun a tale of sexual liberation, revolving around a Dominant Couple, Ramesses and Neferterri, and their submissives, incorporating lessons for the novice that might be curious, but not yet ready to indulge into that world, while entertaining and titillating the experienced whom are used to delving into the world of WIITWD (what it is that we do) and enjoying the decadence within.
His sophomore effort in February 2010, Deviant Intent: Obsession, is an erotic mystery that flexes Rashaan’s muscles and talent as a mystery writer, relying heavily on his background and studies in the criminal justice field, where he is earning his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Phoenix. DI, as he affectionately refers to his second series, is a spinoff from his Chronicles series which introduces us to Dominic Law, a former Atlanta Police Detective who turns PI at the request of his childhood friend, Ramesses, to help him carve a niche in the PI industry by helping kinksters with different cases that the police just simply aren’t tremendously interested in, except maybe the special victims unit.
Rashaan lent his literary talents in March 2010 to an anthology edited by the amazing Cole Riley called Making the Hookup: Edgy Sex with Soul. Being a part of that project was a feather in the cap for Shakir, as the anthology made it into a conversation on the Oprah Winfrey Show regarding positive erotica writing.
Rashaan is getting back to the series that put him on the map, releasing Legacy: Book Two of the Chronicles of the Nubian Underworld in December 2010. He’s continuing the series, taking fans deeper into the “Fetish/BDSM Underworld” and putting a few more twists along the way.
Before it’s all said and done, Shakir hopes that anyone that reads any of the novels can find a character that they can identify with and love or love to hate. As the novels continue to come out, the maturity will be noticeable and the depth of the characters will keep fans coming back for more.
