This short story proves that appearances can be deceiving. It sat on my Kindle for the longest time and I kept passing it over. I thought it was a story about young women having a lark at the beach.I was wrong.
Sure, it starts out that way. Rori and Addison are both 27 and best friends since their early school days. As the story opens the women are on their annual vacation to the beaches of Panama. Addison is driving Rori crazy with comparisons between Betty and Veronica - of Archie Comics fame. Rori is aghast when Addison decides she's naming her breasts after the characters.
Then the story takes a 180 and moves into something much more serious. Addison has breast cancer.
The balance tells of Addison's fight, Rori's support of her, and the final outcome.
This turned out to be a very moving story told in few words. And, yes, I cried.
