Read full description of the books The Mound Builders:Very good book...read it about the same time we visited the mounds national park in Anderson Indiana...Halloween 2012.
I read it specifically for that reason...
Adena culture existed in this area...The Adena culture is seen as the precursor to the traditions of the Hopewell culture...And their beautiful, mysterious mounds (or as some would imagine,Ohio Valley Nephilim Temples)?
See Fomalhaut/Earthwork B.
This earthwork lines up with the rising of the star Fomalhaut in the fall months...The word "albemuth" in PKD's "Radio Free Albemuth" was derived by Dick from the Arabic word Al Behemoth, "the whale", itself an oblique reference to Fomalhaut, the star Dick at one time believed "VALIS" came from in real life.
Fomalhaut traditionally represents the mouth of the fish.(See ichthys & the Jonah & the whale story)It's companion Fomalhaut b was thought to be the first extrasolar planet ever detected by a visible light image.
AND...If you have never heard the sci-fi giant,PKD's fish story, here is the short version:
"Dick started the journal after his visionary experiences in February and March 1974, which he called "2-3-74." These visions began shortly after Dick had two impacted wisdom teeth removed. When a delivery person from the pharmacy brought his pain medication, he noticed the ichthys necklace she wore and asked her what it meant. She responded that it was a symbol used by the early Christians, and in that moment Dick's religious experiences began:
In that instant, as I stared at the gleaming fish sign and heard her words, I suddenly experienced what I later learned is called anamnesis—a Greek word meaning, literally, "loss of forgetfulness." I remembered who I was and where I was. In an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, it all came back to me. And not only could I remember it but I could see it. The girl was a secret Christian and so was I. We lived in fear of detection by the Romans. We had to communicate with cryptic signs. She had just told me all this, and it was true.
For a short time, as hard as this is to believe or explain, I saw fading into view the black, prison-like contours of hateful Rome. But, of much more importance, I remembered Jesus, who had just recently been with us, and had gone temporarily away, and would very soon return".
I have read PKD's "exegesis" & tend to wonder if he knew about these mounds & in particular,Fomalhaut/Earthwork B...if he had,i imagine he would have wanted to visit there too.
Also of note:
Some believe the ancient 'secret' Christian sign was the two lines in the sand ...the two lines that make what we know today as the "Jesus fish" ichthys sign that is not so secret anymore whilst it appears on the many back bumpers of cars advertising Jesus...a beautiful idea is that those two lines continuing represents eternity ∞ and/or the DNA ∞∞∞∞ sequence...Supposedly,before Christianity 'adopted' the fish symbol, it was known by pagans as "the Great Mother", and "womb". Its link to fertility, birth, and the natural force of women was acknowledged also by the Celts, as well as pagan cultures throughout northern Europe.(Also then compare the image of Vescia Pisces-i saw it in France in 1997 on the Vesica Piscis figure at the Chartres Cathedral,Central tympanum of the Royal portal)...“Geometrically, the Vesica is constructed from two intersecting circles, so that it may be taken as having a double significance. It means astronomically at the present day a starry conjunction; and by a very intelligent transfer of typical ideas a divine marriage or the two-fold essence of life, which the ancients supposed to be male and female. To every Christian the Vesica is familiar from its constant use in early art, for not only was it an attribute of the Virgin, and the feminine aspect of the Saviour as symbolized by the wound in his side, but it commonly surrounds the figure of Christ, as His Throne when seated in Glory.
All of that history/mythology lining up from a mound in Indiana to the stars in space!
...anyway,on our day trip to Anderson,we listened to "Psychedelic Pill" by Neil Young, had Ben & Jerry's Phish food ice cream & went over to see James Dean's hometown as well.
