Read full description of the books Jessica Jones: The Pulse - The Complete Collection:The Pulse continues Jessica Jones' story from where Alias left her, and I thought about a long time if I would feel enough desire to go on with my reading as I knew I would be entering into an more superhero-heavy ground, which is not always what I am looking for.
After Bendis decided to bring Jessica back with a new series, I did not really have any other choice than get The Pulse out of my way in order to be fully up to date of Jessica's life.
The Pulse doesn't really have the same feel in it that is touchable with Alias. Jessica is in a lot better chapter in her life, which makes the overall atmosphere more lighter, positive and, in some parts, almost superficial when comes to her characteristics. I was never a big fan of her doing Luke Cage, mostly because it just did not cause any feels and realness in me, and that same indifference from my part continues with The Pulse even when it almost solely focuses on the aspects of their relationship and Jessica's pregnancy.
The first story arc was rather interesting as it had a lot of mystery within, and perhaps introduced me to an character; Ben Urich, that reminded me of the past-Jessica, expect that he was not a Jessica. The second story arc was so superhero-heavy that it somewhat lost my interest in a long run, and didn't really give any kind of conclusion I could wish for.
There was still glimpses of the Jessica who starred Alias, but for some reason, it felt like she was not the main character but rather an observer who showed how the Marvel Universe works and is. I think that was a real shame. The art continued to be good, but not as impressive than it was before, and I think this has more to do with the spirit of this collection rather than the talented artistic touch itself.
Read information about the authorA comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.
Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.
Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.
Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.
Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.
Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.
He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.
